ARA O TE AO

We will begin by following one of the oldest paths on the island, called Ara O Te Ao, which will lead us to the Rano Kau lookout point, the island’s largest crater. From here, we will continue to Orongo, an ancient ceremonial village.

From here the Tangata Manu competition used to take place, a ritual in which the goal was to obtain the first egg of the season belonging to the manu tara bird. You might also find it interesting to know that the architecture of Hotel Hangaroa pays tribute to this ceremonial village.
